The dataset consists of calibrated zenith shortwave spectral radiances (440-1700 nm) and cloud optical depth (COD) retrievals approximately every second. Retrievals of cloud droplet effective radius and thermodynamic phase are currently done offline, but some of these retrievals are included in the dataset. Effective radius and phase are included for days with periods of sufficiently high COD. Effective radius and phase retrievals in the data set were computed at approximately 5-10 second intervals to reduce computation time. The retrievals can be performed at the full sample rate. The field of view is 0.5 degree.

Abstract: | The dataset consists of calibrated zenith shortwave spectral radiances (440-1700 nm) and cloud optical depth (COD) retrievals approximately every second. |
Purpose: | This data set was collected for an ARM Small Field Campaign on AMF2 at SAIL from July 2022-June 2023. The purpose of the campaign was to compare retrievals using Aerodyne's Cloud Properties sensor and algorithms to the retrievals from other co-located instruments using various modalities. The instrument uses uncooled Si and InGaAs grating spectrometers for the VIS and NIR channels, respectively. All optics and electronics are contained in the fielded enclosure. The field campaign provided the opportunity to continue evaluation of the TWST instrument and retrieval algorithms in an operationally relevant environment. |

Data Quality: |
Attribute Accuracy:
| No formal uncertainty assessments were conducted and no estimates of uncertainty are reported. |
Positional Accuracy:
| No formal positional accuracy tests were conducted |
Consistency and Completeness Report:
| Data set is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details. |
Factor Affecting the Research:
| Yes. The instrument is zenith staring with no external shutter. Snow accumulation on the window yields invalid data. The technicians removed snow and cleaned the window periodically, but there are periods when the data is affected by snow. |
|
Use Restrictions:
| No use constraints are associated with this data. |
Tools:
|
Tool/Model Description: | COD is retrieved using two methods, the method described in the above reference and joint effective radius and COD retrieval. Thermodynamic phase is determined from an initial calculation. The algorithms are implemented in python and Mathematica. |
