TAMU TRACER Upper Air Radiosonde Data June-September 2022 Southeast Texas

Overview:

The following dataset relates to the TAMU TRACER radiosonde IOP, which involved launching iMet-4 and iMet-4C radiosonde models from various locations in southeast Texas. The radiosondes were launched between June and September 2022 during the TRACER IOP. Telemetry data for all IOPs were copied using the iMet-OS II software provided by radiosonde manufacturer, Intermet Systems.

Abstract:

The following dataset relates to the TAMU TRACER radiosonde IOP, which involved launching iMet-4 and iMet-4C radiosonde models from various locations in southeast Texas. The radiosondes were launched between June and September 2022 during the TRACER IOP. Telemetry data for all IOPs were copied using the iMet-OS II software provided by radiosonde manufacturer, Intermet Systems.

Purpose:

Data were collected to sample the heterogeneity in thermodynamic properties of air masses across the sea-breeze front. While the ARM AMF1 and ANC sites were fixed in place, TAMU TRACER conducted mobile operations, redeploying as the sea-breeze front propagated inland each afternoon in order to concurrently sample different regional and mesoscale air masses than the ARM sites that could potentially serve as inflow to deep moist convection.

Data Usage:Each TAMU TRACER IOP has two txt files associated with it. Files with SHARPPY.txt extension have data records at 1 second temporal resolution beginning at the time of radiosonde launch. Data within TSPOTINT.txt files are available at a time interval of 5 seconds. The data files contain basic meteorological variables i.e., dry bulb temperature, relative humidity, dewpoint temperature, wind speed and direction, and geopotential height. Please refer the README.pdf file for further details regarding data variables and units. The absolute accuracy of the data and their calibrations cannot be guaranteed because of proprietary information. Users wishing to use this dataset and needing details regarding calibration or accuracy of data may either contact the PI or InterMet Systems for a detailed discussion of the sensor operation and interpretation.
